Chap. 204.—An ACT to incorporate the Association of Confederate
Soldiers of Lynchburg and Campbell.

A. Langhorne, C. B. Fleet, W. W. Larkin, John H. Davis,
Charles M. Blackford, R. G. H. Kean, E. P. Goggin, Thomas
J. Kirkpatrick, Alexander McDonald, R. C. ‘Burkholder,
Stephen P. Halsey, J. B. Norvell, W. H. Dulaney, George A.
Kinnear, C. D. Hamner, T. H. Simpson, J. J. Vanness, T. D.
Jennings, H. C. Mays, John T. Smith, W. J. Falkes, H. Gray
Latham, J. A. Scuddy, J. H. Smith, G. W. Smith, R. L. Wal-
dron, D. C. Guy, James Franklin, Jr., John Williams, George
R. Lyman, H. J. Abrahams, C. DeWitt, Green T. Lavender,
Samuel Kinnier, and such persons as they may associate with
them, and their successors, be, and they are. hereby consti-
tuted a body politic and corporate, under the name and style
of The Association of Confederate Soldiers of Lynchburg
and Campbell; and as such may have a common seal, sue and
be sued, and have and enjoy all powers necessary to carry
out the purposes of this charter which are not inconsistent
with the laws of this state, and subject to the limitations
contained in the Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-
three, respecting corporations.
2. The object of the said association shall be the erection,
in the city of Lynchburg, of a monument to the memory of
the soldiers and sailors of the confederate states from Lynch-
burg and Campbell, who fell in the war between the United
States and the Confederate States; the collection of histori-
cal mat'er respecting such soldiers and sailors, and the com-
mands with which they were connected; the removal of the
remains of such soldiers and sailors to a suitable place of in-
terment, and the extension of charity to the surviving sol-
diers and sailors of the Confederate States, who may necd it,
and to the widows and orphans of those wko lost their lives
in the confederate cause.
3. The said association shall have power and the right to
receive a grant from the city of Lynchhurg, or from any
person, of a suitable site for the erection of the monument
aforesaid, or to purchase the samo; to establish a constitution
and by-laws subject to the general laws of the state; to rent
or purchase a hall or room for its use, and to collect and in-
vest the funds necessary to carry out the objects contem-
plated by this act.
4, The officers of the association shall be a president, two
vice-presidents, secretary, treasurer, chaplain, and an execu-
tive committee of not less than five nor more than twenty,
and such other officers as the said association muy direct, or
the constitution or by-laws may provide for. All officers
shall be elected annually, unless the by-laws shall otherwise
provide, and shall hold office until their successors are duly
qualified.
d. The executive committee shall be subject to the control
of the association, and, unless otherwise directed by said as-
sociation, manage its affairs, direct its charities, Lave charge
of and be responsible for its property, effects and funds, and
take general administration of every thing that concerns it.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
