Chap. 193.—An ACT to amend an act to incorporate the Eastern
Branch turnpike and toll-bridge company, approved March 14, 1872.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the act approved March fourteenth, eighteen hundred and
seventy-two, entitled an act to incorporate the Eastern Branch
turopike and toll-bridge company, be amended by adding the
following section:
§ 4. The said company are hereby authorized to extend
their turnpike from the Eastern Branch bridge to a point at
or near Great bridge, in the county of Norfoik, by the most
direct line practicable; and in constructing said turnpike
road, shall have the right to cross the bed of the public road,
known as the Great bridge and Ferry Point road, at such
points as said direct line may require; but no tolls shall be
charged for passing over so much of the bed of the said old
public road as may be used by said turnpike road; and the
said company are hereby authorized to erect a gate or gates
across said turnpike road as they may deem expedient: pro-
vided however, that no gate shall be erected on any part of
the aforesaid old public road as sball be used or occupied by
said turnpike road, and the said company shall ‘have and are
hereby authorized to charge such tolls over said turnpike
road as are now authorized by law: provided however, that
the general assembly shall, at all times have, and hereby
reserves the power to change and modify the rates of toll to
be charged for passage over said turnpike road.
2. This act shall be in force from its pasgage.
