Chap. 65.—An ACT to incorporate The Aged Home Association.
Approved February 12, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the Reverend R. Wells, Reverend J. H. Holmes, Reverend
W. B. Derrick, Reverend William Troy, J. Anderson Taylor,.
James H. Barnes, William H. Lester, Landon Boyd, Mistress
Amanda Holmes, Mistress Julia Atkinson, Mistress Margaret
Osborne, Mistress Annie EK. Tuylor, and Mistress Mahala
Smith, and*their successors and such persons as they may
associate with them, be and they are ‘hereby created a body
corporate, under the name of The Aged Home Association,
and as such Bhall have all the powers conferred on corpora-
tions by the Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three.
2. The object of said corporation shall be to provide
home and support for aged persons, where circumstances
render such necessary and proper, and to that end it shall.
have power to receive donations, bequests, and legacies, and.
to do such things as are necessary to accomplish the object
of its creation.
3. The officers of the association shall be a president, vice-
president, treasurer, secretary, and chaplain, and board of
directors of not less than ten nor more than twenty, and a
board of trustees of not less than five nor more than ten,,.
and such other officers as the directors may appoint or the.
by-laws provide for. All officers shall be elected annually
unless otherwise provided by the by-laws, and shall hold office
until their successors are qualified, except one-half of the-
board of directors to be determined by lot, in the first in-
stance shall be elected every year, and one-half of the board
of trustees to be likewise determined shall also be elected’
every year, so that the directors and trustees after the first
year shall hold for two years, one-half of each being elected
every year.
4, The board of trustees shall have charge of and be re-
sponsible for the property, effects, and funds of the associa-
tion, and the board of directors shall have charge of the
business thereof, shall manage its affairs, direct its charities,
and take general administration of everything that con-
cerns it. | :
5. The corporation shall have power to hold property not
exceeding one hundred thousand dollars, and to hold real
estate in the city of Richmond not exceeding one acre.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
