Chap. 232.—An ACT to incorporate the Orange Courthouse and Har-
risonburg Railroad Company.
Approved March 29, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Robert A. Banks, George Booten, Thomas L. Grasty, A. K.
Philips, E. J. Armstrong, W. H. Fitzhugh, A. Wellington
Wallace, W. M. Sibert, John P. Aylor, Erasmus Taylor, or
such of them as may accept the provisions of this act, and
such persons and corporations as may become associated with
them, in the manner hereinafter provided, shall be and they
are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate, by the
name*of The Orange Courthouse and Harrisonburg Railroad
Company; and by that name shall have all the powers, rights
and franchises, necessary and proper to locate, canstruct and
maintain a railroad from Orange courthouse, through the
counties of Madison and Rockingham, to Harrisonburg. The
counties through which said road may pass, are authorized
to vote subscriptions to the capital stock of said company, in
form and manner as prescribed by law regulating county
subscriptions to incorporated companies.
2. That the capital stock of said company shall not be less
than five hundred thousand dollars, nor more than three mil-
lions of dollars, to be divided into shares of one hundred dol-
lars each; and whenever fifty shares shall have been sub-
scribed under the direction of any three of the corporators
hereinbefore named, the subscribers may organize the com-
pany by electing a president and board of directors, and elect-
ing or appointing such other officers as may be necessary for
the management of the affairs of the company; and there-
upon they shall have and exercise all the general powers and
functions of a corporation, and be subject to all the restric-
tions imposed by the laws of this state, applicable to inter-
nal improvement companies, except so far as may be changed
or modified by this act.
3. That the company hereby incorporated shall have the
right to make convenient connections with any other road or
roads, now or hereafter to-be constructed in this state, within
the limits aforesaid.
4, This act shall be in force from its passage.
