Chap. 23.—An ACT Fixing the Term of Office of Constable for the city
, of Winchester.
Approved January 26, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the time of office of the constable of the city of Winchester
shall be for two years.
2. That the term of the present incumbent shall expire on
the thirtieth day of June next. ,
3. That a constable shall be elected for the said city at the
regular election to be held on the fourth Thursday in May,.
eighteen hundred and seventy-six, and every second year
thereafter.
4, That the constable of said city so elected, shall qualify
before the judge of the corporation court of the city ot Win-
chester in term or in vacation, on or before the thirtieth day
of June next following his election, and shall enter upon the
discharge of his duties on the first day of July next follow-
ing his election, and shall continue in office until his succes-
sors shall have qualified; but before entering upon the
discharge of his duties, and as a part of his qualifications, he
shall execute before the judge of the aforesaid corporation
court a bond in the penalty of two thousand dollars, condi-
tioned for the faithful discharge of the duties of his said
office.
5. That all vacancies in the office of constable of said city,
occasioned by death, resignation, removal, failure to qualify,
or otherwise, shall be filled by the judge of said court in term
or in vacation, and the appointment then made by the said
judge shall be for the remainder of the then unexpired term
of two years, and the appointee shall qualify and give bond.
within twenty days after his appointment, in the manner
provided in fourth section of thisact; and if he fail to qualify.
and give bond as hérein required, the office shall be deemed.
