Chap. 224.—An ACT to authorize the Supervisors of Bath County to
Build a Turnpike Road in said County.
Approved March 29, 1876,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the board of supervisors of Bath county,
and their successors, to build in said county, and for the
benefit of said county, a turnpike road from Millboro’ depot,
on the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad, in said county, to in-
tersect the Warm Springs mountain turnpike, at or near
Mistress Brinkley’s, in said county.
2. The said board of supervisors, and their successors in
office, shall have power to lay a levy on the real and personal
property in the said county, said levy not to exceed the pre-
sent rate of taxation on the hundred dollars for revenue pur-
poses, for the purpose of building said road, which said levy
shall not exceed in the aggregate the sum of one thousand
dollars, and to be paid in one and two years.
3. When the said road shall have been completed, it shall
be lawful for the said board of supervisors, and their succes-
sors, to erect toll-gates and charge toll thereon, the proceeds
of which shall be for the benefit of the said county of Bath,
and be appropriated to the payment of the county levy of
said county.
4, The said board of supervisors shall, as to their turnpike,
be invested with all the rights, powers, and privileges, and
be liable to all the duties and obligations imposed upon turn-
pike companies by the general laws 8 the state, except that
they shall not be required to build the said turnpike of a
greater width than sixteen feet.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
