Chap. 211.—Au ACT to incorporate the Friendly Aid Society of Hali-
ax County.
Approved March 27, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Daniel Carter, William Carter, George Washington, J. T.
Russell, Henry Traynham, and all others who now are or
may hereafter become members of the society, be and they
are hereby made a body politic and corporate, by the name
and style of The Friendly Aid Society of Halifax county, the
object of which shall be to exercise and dispense charitable
aid, and by that name sbail have perpetual succession and a
common seal, may contract and be contracted with, sue and
be sued, plead and be impleaded, with power to purchase,
receive and hold, to them and their successors forever, any
lands, not exceeding one acre in amount, goads or chattels,
or to receive such property by gift, bequest, or otherwise, for
beneficial purposes of said society. They shall also have the
power to rent, sell or loan, for the use and benefit of the said
society, any of the said property so acquired: provided,
however, that the lands, goods and chattels so authorized to
be held, shall not exceed in amount and value two thousand
dollars. |
Z. That the members of said society, or such members
thereof as they shall determine to be a quorum for such pur-
pose, shall have power to make such constitution, by-laws
and regulations for the government of said society and its
officers, and the execution of its objects, not inconsistent
with the laws of this state or of the United States, as they
may think proper, and shall have the power to require such
fees, fines and contributions from its members as they shall
deem proper for the purposes of said society.
3. The legislature reserves the right to modify or repeal
this act at pleasure.
