Chap. 103.—An ACT to provide for the Disposition of the Proceeds of
Norfolk County Ferries.

Approved February 26, 1876.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the ferries which now ply, by authority of law, between the
city of -Portsmouth and the city of Norfolk, known as Nor-
folk County, Ferries shall continue to run, as now author-
ized by law, and shall be the joint and equal property of said
city of Portsmouth and Norfolk county.
2. The said ferries shall beregulated and managed by a com-
mittee of six, three of whom shall be appointed by the judge
of the county court ot Norfolk county and three by the judge
of the court of hustings for the said city of Portsmouth.
3. It shall be the duty of the agent or lessee, of said ferries
to pay the net proceeds or profits thereof, as required from
time to time, one half thereof to the treasurer of Norfo!k
county, who shall receive the same, and be responsible under
his official bond, for their disbursement as may be ordered
by the board of supervisors of said county, and the other half
thereof to the treasurer of the city of Portsmouth, who shall
receive the same and be responsible under his official bond,
for their disbursement as may be ordered by the council of
said city: provided, that if the funds so ordered to be paid
over to the treasurer aforesaid, are not embraced in their
present official bonds, they shall be required to execute new
bonds to cover said funds before receiving the same. ‘But
nothing herein contained shall impair the right and duty of
the said committee, appointed as aforesaid, for the regulation
and management of said ferries, to provide from the proceeds
of said ferries for the payment of the coupon bonds,and in-
terest thereon, which have been or may be, issued by the
said committee pursuant to the act of the general assembly,
approved March the twenty-sixth eighteen hundred and
seventy-two, entitled an act authorizing the joint committee
for the management of Norfolk county ferries to issue cou-
pon bonds on behalf of Norfolk county and the city of Ports-
mouth and for other purposes.
4. All acts and parts of acts, so far as they are in conflict
with the provisions of this act, are hereby repealed.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
