Chap. 88.—An ACT Incorporatin the Germania Maennerchor of the
City of Richmond.
Approved March 6, 1874.
Whereas it has been represented to the general assembly
of Virginia, that sundry citizens hereinafter named have
associated themselves as a society, with a view to the pro-
motion and cultivation of the science of music, and that the
accomplishment thereof would be greafly facilitated if they
were vested with some of the pgwers, privileges, and attri-
butes of a corporate body—
1. Be it therefore enacted by the general assembly, That
Charles Lohnert, Charles Seibert, George Guvernator, Charles
Jurgens, John Deuringer, Jul. Fischer, and Theodore Boschen,
as well as all others who may be hereinafter admitted to mem-
bership with them, be a body corporate.and politic, by the
name of the Germania Maennerchor of the city of Richmond,
and as such shall be capable of suing and of being sued in
any of the courts of law or equity of this commonwealth;
of contracting and of being contracted with; and shall have
perpetual succession and be authorized to use a common seal.
2. Be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for the
musical society thus constituted, to enact all such by-laws as
they may deem necessary and proper for attaining the objects
of their association, and not contrary to the Constitution or
laws of the United States or of the commonwealth of Vir-
nia.
5"3. Be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for the
said society to buy, sell, or lease such real or personal prop.
erty as may be required for their use or accommodation as a
society: provided, that it shall not hold or possess, at any
one time, property to an amount exceeding ten thousand
dollars.
4. Be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for the
said society to require of persons admitted to membershit
therein, such admission fees and monthly or annual dues o1
contributions as the society may from time to time enact

recoverable = fee, dues, or contribution, that the same dail be recoverable
by the society, before a justice, within any county, city, or
corporation whereof the member so failing or refusing to
pay shall be a resident.
Charterunder 95. Be it further enacted, That this act shall be at all times

Commencement 6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
