Chap. 84.—An ACT Authorizing D. A. Plecker to Erect a Toll-bridge
across North River at Mount Crawford, in Rockingham County.
Approved March 6, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful for D. A. Plecker to erect a toll-bridge across North
river at Mount Crawford, in the county of Rockingham, at
or near the site of the former bridge; and for that purpose
.e is hereby authorized to purchase or condemn in the mode p
rescribed by law, a lot of ground, not exceeding one acre, ©
or the erection of a toll-house, and so much land as may be
ecessary for the abutments and the construction of the said
ridge and a convenient pass-way over the same.
2. That it shall be lawful for the said D. A. Plecker, or his r
egal representatives, so soon as the said bridge shall be com-
pleted and upen for transportation and travel, to collect tolls
.t the following rates, to-wit: For every score of sheep, hogs,
yr cattle, twenty cents, and in the same proportion for a
yreater number; for every horse and rider, three cents; for
svery lead horse or mui, chee cents; for every foot passen-
rer, three cents; for every animal drawing a wagon, or other-
wise, five cents; for every pleasure vehicle drawn by one
horse, ten cents; drawn by two, twenty cents; for every
-wo-horse passenger coach, ten cents; and for every four-
horse coach, twenty-five cents: provided, the said bridge be
commenced within six months and completed within twelve =
months. ° b
3. All laws now in force regulating toll-bridges shall apply v
to this act; and nothing herein contained shall prevent the P
general assembly from changing and regulating hereafter the p
rates of toll prescribed by this charter. :
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, subject to ¢
modification or repeal at the pleasure of the general assembly. ®
