Chap. 68.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an Act Entitled an Act
Authorizing Certain Commissioners to sell a Certain Lot of Land in
Winchester, Belonging to the Winchester Academy.
Approved February 2, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the first section of the act approved March twenty-ninth,
eightcen hundred and seventy-one, entitled an act authoriz-
ing certain commissioners to sell a certain lot of land in
Winchester, belonging to the Winchester academy, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
“$1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That Robert T. Barton and Joseph H. Sherrard be and they
are hereby appointed commissioners for the purpose of making
sale at public auction, to the highest bidder, of the lot ad-
joining the town of Winchester, belonging to the Winches-
ter academy, incorporated by the act of the general assembly
passed October, seventeen hundred and eighty-six, and said
commissioners shall pay over the proceeds of said sale to the
constituted authorities of the Young Men’s christian associa-
tion of Frederick county, Virginia, to be invested and used
by them for educational purposes in such manner as will best
fulfill the benevolent intentions of the donor: provided,
that either one of said commissioners may act, and that they
shall charge no more than the actual expenses of sale.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
