Chap. 44.—An AQT to amend and re-enact Section 22, of Chapter 13,
of the Cade of Virginia (edition of 1878), in Regard to Superinten-
dent, Assistant Keepers and Surgeon of the Penitentiary, and 'to De-
clare the True Intent and Meaning of said Section in Regard to extra
Allowance to Assistant. Keepers of the Penitentiary.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That section gx
twenty-two, of chapter thirteen, of the Code of Virgima chay
(edition of eighteen hundred and seventy-three), be amended ore
and re-enacted so as to read as follows: Bee |
‘§ 22. The superintendent of the penitentiary shall receive sals
the sum of two thousand dollars. he first assistant keeper Pet!
nine hundred dollars; the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth,
and seventh assistant keepers each, eight hundred dollars.
Moreover, each of said assistant keepers shall be allowed one
hundred dollars’ worth of the manufactures of the peniten-
tiary at the prices fixed by the directors, every year the
labor whereof, exclusive of the amount received for the hire
of convicts, shall amount to the sum of thirty-two thousand
dollars. The surgeon of the penitentiary shall receive the
sum of nine hundred dollars.”
2. And it is hereby declared that the foregoing section
expresses the true intent and meaning of the section amended,
when passed by the general assembly.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
