Chap. 303.—An ACT to Incorporate the Charlotte County Immigra-
tion Society.
Approved April 29, 1874.
_ 1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Charles R. Boyce, Parson C. Russell, John C. Russell, F. J.
Barnes, L. T. Barnes, Reps O. Robertson, John B. Barnes,
William A. Smith, and such other persons as they may here-
after associate with them, shall be and they are hereby con-
stituted and made a body politic and corporate, by the name
and style of the Charlotte County Immigration Society, and
by this name and style are hereby invested with all the
rights, powers, and privileges hereinafter set forth, and sub-
ject to all the rules, regulations, and restrictions imposed by
the Code of Virginia applicable to such associations, and not
inconsistent with the provisiqns of this act.
. 2. The society shall be composed of, in addition to the
above-mentioned persons, such persons as may be elected by
a three-fourths vote of the dircctors present at any meeting;
and the payment of a subscription of ten dollars shall con-
stitute all such persons life members.
3. Its officers shall be a president, two vice-presidents, sec-
retary, corresponding secretary, and treasurer, who shall
have charge of all the business of the society, subject to the
action of the board of directors, under such by-laws as may
be adopted by the society, not inconsistent with this act or
other laws of the state of Virginia.
4. This society sball elect at its first meeting, and annually
thereafter, all its officers and a board of not less than five
nor more than twenty directors, any five of whom shall con- Quor
atitute a quorum, and who shall have general supervision
and control of its affairs; both officers and directors to serve
for one year from date of election. .
5. It shall be the business of this society to bring together Busix
buyers and sellers of land, and to furnish correct information “°'Y
to both classes. ~
6. The society shall have the privilege of selling lands on Batec
commission: -provided, that nothing in this act shall be so ‘et
construed as to exempt said company from the payment of Comr
the tax imposed by law on other land agents, and, for that ¢xen¢
purpose, of receiving, entertaining, and conducting persons
esiring to purchase lands, and of issying circulars and other-
wise advertising lands entrusted to them for sale, and of buy-
ing, owning, and improving such real estate only as may be
necessary for buildings and other purposes of the society.
7. Regular meetings of the society shall assemble semi- Regul

manner, when deemed necessary.
8. All moneys coming to the society, whether from com- Mone
missions on sales of land or from subscriptions, shall be held "©
by the treasurer and kept account of as earnings,-subject to His«
dividend or investment, on a two-thirds vote of the members “ty
present at any regular meeting of the society.
9. No officers or directors shall be elected, nor any divi- Elect

10. Certain members of the society, who shall report them- regul:
selves as prepared to do so, shall be authorized to receive, 7
entertain, and conduct persons desiring to buy lands and to ando
