Chap. 302.—An ACT to amend the 2d Section of an Act providing for:
the Abolition of the office of Superintendent of Public Buildings, ap-
proved February 28, 1874, and to provide Additional Compensation
or the Register of the Land Office, for the Discharge of the duties of
the Superintendent of Public Buildings devolved upon him.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the second Acts
section of an act providing for the abolition of the office of inten
superintendent of public buildings, approved February twen- publi
ty-eighth, eighteen ‘hundred and seventy-four, be amended ~*~’
and re-enacted to read as follows:
“§ 2. That the duties heretofore performed by the super- supe
intendent of public buildings shall be hereafter performed by fot
the register of the land office, under the direction and control ister
of the governor of the commonwealth, and in addition thereto adai
the said register shall keep a book in which shall be recorded tes
evidences of all the real property known or ascertained to prope
be the property ot the commonwealth at the seat of govern-
ment, or in the vicinity, including the capital, the governor’s capit
house; and the lands and buildings attached to each; the Gove:
state courthouse and the lot and appurtenances thereto be- 2™
longing; the penitentiary and the public lots connected there- p4Ae
with; the penitentiary spring lot; the armory grounds and Penit
the portion thereof under lease according to law; the pro- 2n¢F
perty heretofore designated as the public warehouse, with pubii
whatever portion thereof has been leased by authority of ®>™™
law; the granite quarries on the James River and Kanawha Gran
canal as reserved to the commonwealth in the uct passed on ™
the twenty-first day of January, eighteen hundred and sixty;
the ropewalk lot, numbered one hundred and ninety-four, in Rope
the plan of the city of Richmond, in that part of the cit
known as Rocketts, and the lot for weighing live stock rott
on the Brook turnpike, in the county of Henrico, and
any other property which may be hereafter acquired for ano
the commonwealth, by purchase, lease or donation, sta- Pe
ting the exact quantity, how acquired, and in whose pos-
session it may be at the end of each year, and under
what authority acquired, and in what court’s office the
title thereto may have been or shall hereafter be recorded.
It shall moreover be his duty to see that the contracts en- To se
tered into relative to any of said property, are faithfully ex- Sg)
écuted, and that the said property is not injured or impaired
in value. .He shall make report to the governor, annually, Repo
or whenever he may deem it necessary, or may be required
to do so by the governor. All property hereinbefore de- prop
scribed, or such portion thereof as may not have been leased be!e
or disposed of according to law, shall, under the authority ee
and by the orders of the governor, be offered for lease for
such time, upon such terms, and on such notice, as he may
rescribe, and the said register shall execute such orders.
Where shall be reserved in any such lease, the right of the Rese
commonwealth to terminate the same whenever the property
shall be sold, or be otherwise disposed of according to law.
And it shall be the duty of said officer to collect all rents
‘and dues therefor, according to contract, and to pay the
amount received by him forthwith into the public treasury.
And upon the termination of any lease, upon any of said
property, now éxisting, like powers shall be exercised, and
ike duties performed, upon like authority; and, in the mean-
time, the rent reserved thereupon shall be collected and ac-
counted for as herein prescribed; and for the additional ser-
vices herein imposed upon the register of the land office, he
shall receive an additional compensation of three hundred
dollars per annum, so long as the foregoing duties are per-
formed by him.”
. 2, The second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh sec-
tions of the thirtieth chapter of the Code of eighteen hun-
dred and seventy-three, relative to certain public property,
shall be and the same are Hereby repealed.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
