Chap. 23.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Sections 1 and 6, of an Act
entitled an Act to incorporate The Norfolk and Princess Anne Turn-
pike Company, approved March 26, 1872.

1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
sections one and six, of an act entitled an act to incorporate
Lhe Norfolk and Princess Anne Turnpike Company, ap-
proved March twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and seventy-
two, be amended and re-enacted, so as to read as follows:
“§ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia,
That it shall be lawful to open boul, under the direction of
Richard L. Page, Robert L. Owens, C. D. Barbot, William L.
Oswald, H. D. Van Wyck, G. F. B. Leighton, George E. Crom-
well, John B. Whitehead, Edmund Bradford, C. W. Wilson,
William H. White and James H. Harrison, or any three of
them, may appoint, and at such time and place as they may
select, for the purpose of receiving subscription to a joint
capital stock, not exceeding thirty-five thousand dollars, in
shares of twenty-five dollars each, for the purpose of con-
structing a turnpike road from the limits of the city of Nor-
folk, where it intersects with the Princess Anne county road
to Kempsville, or the point or points hereinafter designated
or implied, and of the same width as the said Princess Anne
county road between the points designated, including in such
width all ditches now or that may hereafter be made.
“8 6. After the sum of five thousand dollars, mentioned in
the second section of this act, shall have been subscribed, the
capital stock may be increased from time to time by the board
of directors of said company, to such an amount as they may
deem best for its interests, not exceeding the aforesaid sum
of thirty-five thousand dollars; and for the purpose of con-
structing and maintaining said turnpike, or any lateral or
branch road, the said board of directors may issue bonds to
an amount not exceeding ten thousand dollars, in sums not
less than one hundred dollars each, bearing interest, payable
semi-annually, after a rate not exceeding twelve per centum
per annum, and payable at such times and places as it may
determine, and to secure the payment of the said bonds by
one or more deeds of trust on the said road, its appurtenances,
-branches, franchises, incomes, and real or personal property,
or such parts thereof as may be designated in said deed or
deeds of trust.”
