Chap. 202.—An ACT to Allow R. R. Farr, late Sheriff, and the Col-
lecting Officers of the County of Fairfax, to Collect Taxes, Fee Bills
and County Levies for 1869 and 1870.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That R. R. Farr,
late the sheriff of the county of Fairfax, and the township
collectors thereof, be and they are hereby authorized to re-
ceive and collect the taxes, fee bills and county levies, where
parties have not been returned delinquent, which accrued
and fell due in the years eighteen hundred and sixty-nine
and eighteen hundred and seventy, and are still unpaid, and
they shall hereby possess the same legal rights in the collec-
tion of the same that they had or possessed at the periods
hereinbefore mentioned. Said right shall continue six months
from the approval of this act: provided, that said officers
shall not be entitled to the benefit of this act unless they
shail, prior to the first of July, eighteen hundred and seventy-
four, have returned to the auditor of public accounts and to
the board of supervisors of said county, the delinquent lists
of said county for said years, and have fully paid and dis-
charged all accounts and liabilities charged against them upon
the books of said auditor, and all sums due from them on ac-
count of the collection of the county levy of said county of
Fairfax: provided, further, if said sheriff or other officer
having such taxes, fee bills and county levies {due him shall
depart this life before the same shall have been collected and
accounted for, it shall be lawful for his or their personal rep-
resentatives to place the same in the hands of the acting
sheriff, who shall collect them according to the provisions of
this act; and when the sureties of said sheriff of the county
of Fairfax, if he shall prove a defaulter, shall have paid and
satisfied all claims and liabilities aforesaid, it shall be lawful
for such sureties to place them in the hands of said acting
sheriff, who shall collect them according to the provisions of
this act, and be entitled to the same rates of compensation as
are allowed tocollectors for like services: provided, that this
act shall not create any lien upon the real estate of the tax-
payer for the taxes hereby authorized to be collected, nor
shall the personal estate of the tax-payer of the taxes hereby
authorized to be collected, nor the personal estate of the per-
son in possession of such lands, other than the tax-payer, be
liable bor the tax on the said land.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
