Chap. 182.—An ACT in Relation to the Records of Alexandria County.
Approved April 9, 1874.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the deed books, will books, and judgment docket books, in
which deeds and wills are recorded and judgments docketed,
prior to the organization of the corporation court for the

provisions of an act of the general assembly of Virginia ap-
proved March twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and seventy-
three, entitled an act in relation to the records of Alexandria
county, shall be and remain in said market building, in the
custody of the clerk of the said corporation court, to be kept
by him as provided in the first section of this act.
Copies of re- 8. A copy from any book removed under the first section

poration court, said act of March twenty-sixth, etghteen hundred and sev-
originals enty-three, attested by the clerk of the said corporation
court, may be admitted in evidence in lieu of the original;
and all the provisions of section five of chapter one hundred
and seventy-two of the Code of Virginia of eighteen hundred
and seventy-three, shall be applicable to such copy, and also
to any copy made before the passage of this act, by said clerk,
from any book which may have been removed to the clerk's
office of said court under the provisions of said act of March
twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred and seventy-three.

court shall copy therefrom all deeds relating to real estate

liver said book to the clerk of the said corporation court,
who shall keep the same, as provided in section one of this
Compensation act. The clerk of the said county court shall receive, as.

any copy from said book, attested by the clerk of the said
corporation court.
5. The judgment docket book, in which are docketed judg-
ments obtained in the said county court since the organiza-
tion of the said corporation court, shall remain in the custody
of the clerk of the said county court until the said clerk shall
have copied therefrom all judgments obtained in said county
court since the organization of said corporation court, in a
book to be provided for that purpose by the said city council
of Alexandria, and the said judgment docket book shall then
be delivered to the clerk of the said corporation court. The
book in which the said judgments obtained since the organi-
zation of the said corporation court shall be copied as afore-
said, shall be kept by the clerk of the said county court in
like manner as other records in his office are kept; and the
provisions of section five of chapter one hundred and seventy-
two of the Code of Virginia.of eighteen hundred and seventy-
three, shall be applicable to any copy from said book, attested
by the clerk of the said county court. The clerk of the said
county court shall receive, as compensation for his services
under this section, to be paid by the said city council of Alex-
andria, the sum of forty dollars.
6. Deeds recorded and judgments docketed in the books
removed under this act, or which may have been removed
under the said act of March twenty-sixth, eighteen hundred
and seventy-three, and judgments copied in the book in the
fifth section of this act mentioned, shall have the same force
and effect as to creditors and purchasers in all respects as
they would have had if the aforesaid deed books, will books,
and judgment docket books had remained in the clerk’s office
of the county court of Alexandria.
7. For failure to perform any of the duties required by this
act, the clerk of the said county court shall forfeit the sum
of one hundred dollars, to be recoveréd as provided in chap-
ter forty-one of the Code of Virginia of eighteen hundred
and seventy-three.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
