Chap. 161.—An ACT to Provide for the Establishment of a new School
District in the County of Carroll.
Approved April 9, 1874.
Whereas, the town of Hilleville, in the county of Carroll,
is the corner point of four townships in said county, and por-
tions of said town are consequently embraced in four sepa-
rate and distinct school districts, none of which said portions
contain a school population sufficient to entitla it to a school,
the practical effect of which is to deprive said town of a pub-
lic school altogether; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That that por-
tion of the county of Carroll, embraced in the following
named boundaries, shall be and is hereby constituted and de-
clared to be a separate school district, to-wit: Beginning at
a point where Cranberry creek crosses the dividing line be.
tween the lands of C. G. Elliott and Michael Kinser, and
following said creek to the point where it empties into Little
Reed Island creek; thence with said last named creek to the
mouth of Beaver Dam creek; thence with said Beaver Dam
creek and its western branch to the dividing line between
the lands of H. H. Farmer and Newel McHone; thence by a
direct line to the beginning.
2. Theterritory embraced within the above-named boundary
shall be known as the Hillsville school district, in the county
of Carroll, and shall be entitled to all the rights, privileges
and benefits conferred, and subject to all the liabilities and
penalties imposed by the laws of this state upon school dis-
tricts.
3. It shall be the duty of the board of education, as soon
after the passage of this act as practicable, to appoint three
school trustees for the school district hereby created, who
shall hold their offices for the termsprescribed by law.
4. The officers charged with the assessment and collection
of taxes in the townships of Piper Grass, Sulphur Springs,
Pine Creek and Laurel Fork, shall respectively perform the
duties now required of them by law, in regard to district
school taxes for the portions of their townships embraced in
Hillsville school district.
5. This act shall be in force from and after July first, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-four.
