CHAP. 132.—JOINT RESOLUTION Directing a Distribution of the
Code of 1878.
Approved March 327, 1874.
1. Resolved by the general assembly, That it shall be the
duty of the superintendent of public printing to distribute
the edition of the Code, published by an act of the general
assembly, in force March twenty-fifth, eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, as follows: One copy to the general library,
one copy to the state Jaw library, three copies to the clerk of
the senate for the use of the senate, and six copies to the
clerk of the house of delegates for the use of the house, five
copies to Colonel George W. Munford, the compiler of the work,
and one copy each to the following officers: governor, lieu-
tenant-governor, secretary of the commonwealth, auditor of
public accounts, second auditor, state treasurer, register of
the land office, adjutant-general, superintendent of public in-
struction, secretary of board of public works, superintendent
of penitentiary; each judge of the supreme court of appeals ;
cach circuit, city, county, chancery and corporation judge of
this state; one copy to the Uuiversity of Virginia; one copy
to Washington and Lee university; one copy to the Virginia
military institute, and one copy to the Agricultural college
at Blacksburg; one copy to the Hampton norman school,
and one copy to each incorporated college of the state; one
copy to each of the three lunatic asylums of the state, and
one copy to the deaf, dumb and blind institution. The fol-
lowing named officers shall each be entitled to one copy da-
ring their continuance in office, for which they shall each re-
ceipt to the clerk of the county or corporation court of their
respective counties or corporations, which, at the close of
their several official terms, shall be by them turned over tc
their successors in office, and a like receipt given therefor.
one copy to each justice of the peace and clerk of any court
of this state, each attorney for the commonwealth, sheriff,
sergeant, and county or city treasurer, attorney-general and
each clerk of any United States court in the commonwealth.
The superintendent of public printing shall deliver the re-
maining copies to the secretary of the commonwealth, to be
appropriated and disposed of as follows: one copy to the
governor of each of the other states and territories, for the
use of the respective states and territories; three copies to
the librarian of congress, whereof one shall be for the library,
and one each to the two houses of congress; three copies to
the secretary of state of the United States, whereof one shall
be for the president and one for the attorney-general of the
United States.
2. It shall be the duty of the secretary of the common-
wealth to dispose of the remaining copies to any person
wishing to purchase the same at six dollars per copy, and
deposit all proceeds arising therefrom in the public treasury
of the state: provided, however, he may dispose of fifty or
more copies to the same person at five dollars and fifty cents

3. This act shall not be so construed as to allow any officer,
court, institution or corporation to receive the Code, under
the provisions of this act, after having received it under the
provisions of joint resolution, approved April second, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-three, entitled joint resolution di-
recting a distribution of the new Code when published.
4, All county and corporation officers who have received
the Code under the provisions of the joint resolutions for
the distribution of the Code, approved April second, eighteen
hundred and seventy-three, are hereby required to receipt
for the same, and to turn them over to their successors in of-
fice, as is provided for in the first section of this act.
5. All acts or parts of acts and joint resolutions inconsis-
tent with this act are hereby repealed.
6. This joint resolution shall be in force from its passage.
