Chap. 124.—An ACT to Prevent the Sale of Intoxicating Liquor to
Minors.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
if any person shall sell or barter, or cause to be sold or bar-
tered, or being a merchant or tradesman, or the keeper of
an eating house or ordinary, shall, directly or indirectly, give
or furnish or dispose of, or cause to be given or farnishe or
disposed of, or shall permit to be sold or bartered or given
or disposed of by his clerk or agent or salesman, to any
minor, knowing him to be a minor, without the consent of
his parent or guardin, any wine, ardent spirits, or any mix-
ture thereof, or any kind of spirituous or fermented liquors,
he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall be
fined not less than ten nor more than three hundred dollars;
and upon conviction, he shall be bound by the court in a
sum not less than five hundred dollars, with at least two
sufficient sureties, to be of good behavior for a year; and any
subsequent violation of this section shall be held a forfeiture
of the recognizance.
