Chap. 67.—An ACT to incorporate The Turner Home of the City of
Norfolk.
Approved February 2, 1875.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Richard L. Page, N. A. O’Keson, O.S. Barten, William M.
Dame, John N. Williams, A. L. Seabury, Benjamin P. Loyall,
Richard C. Taylor, Robert B. Tunstall, Richard H. Baker,
Walter H. Taylor, William B. Martin, W. Talbot Walke,
William C. Dickson, and Charles H. Drummond, Jr., together
with such other persons as they may hereafter associate with
them, be and they are hereby constituted a body politic and
corporate, by the name and style of The Turner Home, the
object of which is to provide a comtortable home, with
board, clothing, employment, and medical attendance, for
the aged, infirm, and indigent females of the city of Norfolk,
who may become its inmates; and by tbat name and style
are hereby invested with all the rights, powers, and privi-
leges of a corporation, and shall be subject to the restrictions
prescribed by the Code of Virginia in regard to such bodies,
politic and corporate.
2. The objects of the said corporation being purely benevo-
Jent, its minimum capital may be nominal only; but its maxi-
mum capital shall not exceed the sum of one hundred thou-
sand dollars, including the value of the real estate held by it.
3. The said corporation may acquire and hold by gift, pur-
chase or devise, such real estatd in the city of Norfolk, as
may be necessary or desirable for the accomplishment of the
objects and purposes for which it is instituted; and may ac-
cept and receive by donation, subscription or bequest, per-
sonal property and money not exceeding the amount pre-
scribed as its maximum capital by the second clause hereof.
4, The officers of the said corporation shall consist of a
president, secretary, and treasurer, and board of managers,
which board shall be composed of nine members, unless
otherwise provided by the by-laws ; and the annual meeting
of the corporators shall be held on the first Monday in Ad-
vent.
5. The said corporation may make any and all by-laws,
rules, and regulations, which may be deemed proper for the
conduct and management of its affairs, and shall have power
through its president, when authorized by the board of
managers, to make any contract which may be necessary and.
proper to carry out the objects for which it is created...
6. This act shall be in force trom its passage.
