Chap. 42.—An ACT to Provide for the Collection of the Revenue of the
City of Norfolk for the Year eighteen hundred and seventy-two.
Approved January 20, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the treasurer
of the city of Norfolk be, and heis hereby, authorized and di-
rected to receive, within sixty days from the passage of this act,
from all persons assessed with taxes in the said city of Nor-
folk, the taxes due from them for the year eighteen hundred
and seventy-two, without adding the five per centum prescribed
in cases were taxes have not been paid prior to the first of
December.
2. At the expiration of the said sixty days, it shall be the
duty of the said treasurer to make up a statement of all
moneys received by him, on account of taxes, which statement
shall be verified by affidavit, and shall be forwarded to the audi-
tor of public accounts by said treasurer, and he shall there-
upon pay into the treasury the amount shown to be due by such
statement ; and if he shall fail so to pay over the same, he shall
forfeit his commissions on so much of said balance as he may
fail to account for and pay over.
3. It shall be the duty of the sergeant, of the said city of
Norfolk, at the expiration of the said sixty days aforesaid, to
receive from the treasurer of the said city of Norfolk, all tax
bills for the year eighteen hundred and seventy-two, then un-
paid, and to account for the same by the first day of June
thereafter, in the manner prescribed in the act relating to the
duties and compensation of certain township officers, approved
July eleventh, eighteen hundred and seventy.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
