Chap. 381.—-An ACT to Incorporate the New York, Norfolk and Charles-
ton Railway Company.

Whereas the general assembly of North Carolina, by act rati-
fied the eighteenth day of December, eighteen hundred and
seventy-two, did incorporate the New York, Norfolk and
Charleston Railway company, with the object and for the pur-
pose of constructing and maintaining a railway commencing
at or near the city of Norfolk and extending southward through
the states of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, to
the city of Charleston, South Carolina: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the Norfolk,
New York and Charleston Railway company, incorporated by
the legislature of North Carolina on the eighteenth day of
December, eighteen hundred and seventy-two, are hereby au-
thorized to extend the said railroad from the North Carolina
line to the city of Norfolk or Portsmouth, in the state of Vir-
inia. The capital stock of said Company shall be one hundred
thousand dollars, and said company shall be entitled to all the
privileges and subject to all the restrictions and regulations
imposed by the Code of Virginia and acts of the general as-
sembly amendatory thereof, so far as the same are applicable
to and not inconsistent with this act. ,
2. That the said New York, Norfolk and Charleston Railway
Company shall have corporate powers and be a body corporate
and politic in law, under the name, style and title of the New
York, Norfolk and Charleston Railway Company. :
3. That the said New York, Norfolk and Charleston Railway
Company may survey and run such route as they may deem
practicable, and shall have power and authority to occupy so
much land as may be necessary for the construction of said
railway along the route thereof of the width of one hundred
feet, and so much additional land as may be necessary for the
erection of station-houses, sidings, switches, engine-houses,
depots and all other purposes necessary for the construction
and maintenance of said railway.
4, This act shall be in force from and after its passage.
