Chap. 335.—An ACT Incorporating Leesburg and Goose Oreek Bridge
Company.
Approved April 1, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That Henry Saun-
ders, Jr.. Thomas W. Edwards, Robert Harper, Sterling Mur-
ray and Charles P. Janney, or any three of them, be appointed
commissioners to open, at Leesburg, Loudoun county, books
of subscription to the capital stock of a company, which shall
have the right to erect toll bridges over Goose creek from its
mouth to Ball’s mill, with a capital not exceeding ten thousand
dollars, in shares of twenty-five dollars.
2. That when one hundred and twenty shares shall have
been subscribed and one dollar on each share paid to said com-
missioners, the said company shall be incorporated, under the
name of the Leesburg and Goose Creek Bridge Company, with
all the rights and powers and under all the restrictions im-
posed by the general law, except as herein provided.
3. That with the consent of thé township board of Lees-
burg and Broad River townships, in Loudoun county, the said
company may use and occupy the abutments of the bridges at
Elizabeth mills and at the crossing of the Leesburg turnpike,
on such terms as may be deemed just and reasonable; and if
the said company and said board cannot agree, then on such
terms as shall be prescribed by the county court of Loudoun.
4. That said company shall protect the approaches to the a
bridges on each side for at least fifty feet by a fence not less es
than five feet high, and shall also keep all the roads on each
side of the bridge in full repair at least twenty-two feet wide
for a distance of one hundred feet, and their bridges when not
covered shall have a parapet (at least, five feet high, with no p,
opening exceeding two inches in width), made of two inch “
plank.
5. That said company may charge the following tolls: for r
each horse, mare, mule, gelding, jack, jennet, 3 cents; for each
vehicle drawn by one animal, 10 cents; for each animal exceed-
ing one, 3 cents; for each head of sheep, swine or goats, }
cent; for each head of neat cattle, 4 cent.
6. That the town of Leesburg, in Virginia, may subscribe a si
sum not exceeding one thousand five hundred dollars to the 5
stock of the company: provided, that no sum exceeding six”
hundred dollars shall be paid towards any one bridge, and
that the subscription be authorized as provided in the charter
of said town for subscriptions to works of mternal improve-
ment.
7. That each share shall be entitled to one vote, and any v
vacancy in the office of president or directors shall be filled by »
the board until the next annual meeting.
8. That this act shall be in force from its passage. C
