Chap. 285.—An ACT Authorizing the Rector and Board of Visitors of the
University of Virginia to Expend a Certain sum of Money. |
Approved March 29, 1873.
Whereas, the legislature of Virginia, by an aet passed April
twenty-fifth, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, appropriated
the sum of five hundred dollars, or as much thereof as might
be necessary, to complete the raising and placing in proper po-
sition the statue of Thomas Jefferson; and whereas, a doubt
has arisen as to whether the act aforesaid authorized the ap-
propriation of any part of the said sum of five hundred dol-
lars in paying for publishing the proceedings and the address
of Hugh Blair Grigsby, Esq., delivered on the occasion of. the
inauguration of the statue aforesaid: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the rector and board of visitors of the University of Virginia be,
and they are hereby authorized to use any balance of the sum
of five hundred dollars heretofore appropriated and drawn
from the treasury, after paying for the raising and placing in
proper position the statue of Thomas Jefferson, in having the
‘proceedings and the address delivered by Hugh Blair Grigsby,
Esq., on the occasion of the inauguration of the statue afore-
said published for the use of the University.
