Chap. 264.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact the second Section of an
Act approved March 22d, 1871, entitled an Act to Incorporate the
Town of Blacksburg, in the County of Montgomery.
Approved March 28, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the second
section of an act to incorporate the town of Blacksburg, in the
county of Montgomery, approved March twenty-second, eigh-
teen hundred and seventy-one, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
§ 2. The mayor and council now in office shall constitute a
board for the government of the said town until their succes-
sors shall be elected and qualify according to law. The mayor
shall have the same powers and jurisdiction within the corpo-
ration as are conferred by law upon justices of the peace. The
mayor and council shall have power to appoint a sergeant and
such other officers as may be necessary, together with a police
force for the preservation of order, and the sergeant shall
have the same authority to collect fines and debts within the
corporation as are conferred upon constables and township col-
ectors
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
