Chap. 230.—An ACT to Provide for the Payment of the Amount due from
the State on account of her Subscription to the Saltville and Laurel
Turnpike Company.
In force March 25, 1878.
Whereas, it appears from the certificates of the proper offi-
cers of the Saltville and Laurel Turnpike Company that there
had been paid into the hands of the treasurer of said company
prior to the twentieth day of April, eighteen hundred and sixty-
one, by subscribers other than the commonwealth, the sum of
three hundred dollars, which entitled the company to receive
on account of the state’s subscription the sum of four hundred
and fifty dollars; that no part of said sum of four hundred and
fifty dollars has been paid, and that there is now due to con-
tractors for work done upon the road of said company prior to
the twentieth day of April, eighteen hundred and sixty-one, the
sum of two hundred and eighty-five dollars, due as follows: to
Robert Keys two hundred and seventeen dollars, to James S.
Buchanan thirty-eight dollars, to J. A. McQuown fifteen dol-
lars, and to J. C. Porterfield fifteen dollars: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the auditor of public accounts be and he is hereby authorized
and directed to draw his warrant upon the treasury in favor of
James §. Buchanan, treasurer of the Saltville and Laurel
Turnpike Company, for the sum of three hundred dollars, that
being two-thirds of the amount of four hundred and fifty dol-
lars due from the state on account of her subscription to the
capital stock of said company.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
