Chap. 210.—An ACT Providing for the Preservation of Historical Papers.
Approved March 20, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That Dr. Wm. P.
Palmer be and he is hereby appointed to take charge of the
historical manuscripts in the capitol building, under the direc-
tion of the secretary of the commonwealth, to assort, index,
and prepare a calendar of the same, to be printed under the
direction of the committee on the library, in such form as may
be most suitable to render the same serviceable to those inter-
ested in the history of Virginia: provided, that none of the
said manuscripts shall be removed from the capitol.
2. That for the purposes of this act, a sum not exceeding
two thousand dollars is hereby appropriated out of any money
in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, and the auditor of
public accounts is hereby authorized to issue his warrant upon
the treasury for the sum thus appropriated, upon the certifi-
cate of the secretary of the commonwealth, countersigned by
the governor.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
