Chap. 193.—An ACT to Amend the Act in force February 7th, 1872, in
relation to the Investment of the Proceeds arising from the Sale of the
Land Scrip donated by Congress to Virginia.
Approved March 19, 1873.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
act in force I’ebruary seventh, eighteen hundred and seventy-
two, entitled an act to authorize the sale of the land scrip donated
to Virginia by the Congress. of the United States, providing for
the investment of the proceeds thereof, be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 1. The board of education be and they are hereby autho-
rized to sell, in the manner that shall seem to them most
advantageous, the land scrip donated to the state of Virginia,
by act of congress of the United States, approved July second,
eighteen hundred and sixty-two, and the acts amendatory
thereof; and with the proceeds of such sale, which have not
been heretofore invested, the said board shall purchase bonds
of the state of Virginia, issued since July the first, eighteen
hundred and seventy-one, or bonds of the United States, or
any other safe bonds or stocks, not bearing less than five per
cent, interest, and shall set the same apart, and constitute them
into an educational fund, for the endowment, support and
maintenance of one or more schools, in accordance with the
provisions of said act of congress.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
