Chap. 185.—An ACT to Incorporate the Nansemond Land, Lumber and
Narrow Gauge Railway Company.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful to open books in the town of Suffolk, in
Nansemond county, under direction of Arthur Jakeman, Thos.
L. Blick, Joseph L. Darden, George W. Jakeman and Oliver
Darden, or any three of them, to receive subscriptions to an
amount not less than five thousand nor more than twenty-five
thousand dollars, in shares of one hundred dollars each, to
the end that a joint capital stock company may be created,
with authority to conduct the business of buying, cutting,
selling, and otherwise operating in lumber, and of construct-
ing, as the means of transporting the same to market and for
other purposes, a narrow gauge railway, beginning at or near
the town of Suffolk and terminating at a place called Somer.

2. Whenever fifty shares of stock, amounting to five thou-
sand dollars, shall have been subscribed and paid, the subscri-
bers, their heirs or assigns, shall be and they are hereby
declared and constituted a body politic and corporate, under
the name and style of the Nansemond Land, Lumber and
Narrow Gauge Railway Company, and shall be possessed of
all the rights and privileges conferred, and be subject to all
the restrictions imposed, by the laws of Virginia as applicable
to such bodies.
3. The company may acquire, by lease or purchase, land tc
an amount not exceeding in value twenty-five thousand dollars
with power to dispose of same at pleasure; may borrow at s
lawful rate of interest such sums of money, not exceeding the
amount aforenamed, as it may deem necessary to the conduct
of its business, and may execute lens upon its property, fran
chises and revenues to secure payment of same.
4. This act shall take effect from its passage.
