Chap. 183.—An ACT to Incorporate the Young Men’s Hebrew Benevolent
Society, of Lynchburg, Virginia.
In force March 15, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Max Guggenheimer, jr.. Joseph Cohn, J. Bamburges, Charles
Burk, Solomon Goodman and Simon Strauss, and such other
persons as may hereafter become associated with them, are
hereby constituted a body politic and corporate, by the name
of the Young Men’s Hebrew Benevolent Society, of Lynch-
burg, Virginia, for the purpose of promoting morality, educa-
tion and social culture, and to be subject to the provisions of
any general law of the general assembly now or hereafter to be
in force applying to the same.
2. The said society shall have power to make and adopt a
constitution and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admis-
sion and expulsion of its members, and for their government,
the election of its officers, and to define their duties, and for
the safe-keeping and protection of its property and funds, and
from time to time to alter and repeal such constitution, by-
laws, rules and regulations, provided the same be not incon-
sistent with the constitution and laws of the United States or
of this state.
3. The said society may purchase or receive, by deed, gift
or devise, and hold or lease any real or personal estate, and
lease, rent, sell, invest or otherwise dispose of the same, in
such manner as may seem most to the advantage of said so-
ciety : provided, it shall not hold real estate of value exceeding
twenty thousand dollars.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, and be subject
to amendment, alteration or modification at the pleasure of the
general assembly.
