Chap. 146.—An ACT Authorizing the Governor to Appoint a State As-
sayer and Chemist.
‘Approved March 8, 1873.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the governor of this commonwealth shall appoint a suitable
and competent person, whose office shall be at the city of
Richmond, assayer and agricultural chemist of ores and metals;
such person, when appointed, shall be sworn to a faithful dis-
‘charge of his duties, and shall make an analysis of soils and
assay such ores and metals as maybe presented him for this
purpose, and shall give, when required so to do,a certificate
thereof; and in consideration of which he shall be entitled to
demand and receive from such person or persons a reasonable
compensation therefor. .
2. Any person appointed under the provisions of this act
shall be designated as the state assayer and chemist, and shall
continue to discharge the duties pertaining thereto until his
successor shall be appointed and qualified.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
