Chap. 94.—An ACT to Consolidate the Indebtedness of the City of
Alexandria in one Uniform Issue of Stock.
Approved February 14, 1872.
Whereas, in past years, the corporate authorities of the city r
of Alexandria have issued many evidences of indebtedness in
the form of stocks, bonds and certificates, which it is desirable
to call in and fund in one common uniform issue of bonds:
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That A
the corporate authorities of the city of Alexandria be, and are ?
hereby, authorized to call in all the evidences of indebtedness ©
of said city in the form of stocks, bonds and certificates, here- tl
tofore issued, and in their place to issue a like amount of regis- |
tered coupon bonds, bearing six per cent. interest, payable i
semi-annually, the bonds payable thirty years after date, the ¢
coupons of which shall be received in payment of the city 4
taxes, and of any other indebtedness due to the said city.
2. Be it further enacted, That the treasurer and auditor of v
said city shall cause the bonds, herein authorized to be issued, ?
to be prepared, which said bonds shall be sioned by the mayor t
of the city and the president of the board of aldermen, and the
coupons attached to said bonds by the treasurer of the city;
and the issue of said bonds, in lieu of the indebtedness called
in, shall commence on the first day of July, eighteen hundred v
and seventy-two, and the bonds bear even date therewith. b
2. This act shall be in force from its passage. C
