Chap. 83.—An ACT to Incorporate the Bridgewater and Rawley Springs
Turnpike Company.
In force February 18, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That ,,
for the purpose of constructing a turnpike road from the town P
of Bridgewater, in the county of Rockingham, to Rawley
Springs, in said county, it shall be lawful to open books for
receiving subscriptions to an amount not exceeding twenty ¢
thousand dollars, to be divided into shares of twenty-five dol-
lars each. The said books shall be opened at Bridgewater g
under the direction of J. W. F. Allemong, Maj. Thomas Shu->
mate, James I. Lowman, G. W. Berlin, Dr. J. G. Minor, B.
MI. Rice, or any three of them, and at such other place or places,
and under the direction of such agents, as any saree of the
above named commissioners may appoint.

2. When one hundred shares shall have been subscribed, the
5° subscribers, their executors, administrators and assigns, shall

be and are hereby incorporated into a company by the name
and style of “The Bridgewater and Rawley Springs Turnpike
Company, conformably to the provisions of the Code of Vir-
ginia, and acts amendatory thereof, and supplemental thereto:
provided, that the said company shall not be required to pave
or cover their road with stone or gravel, nor to make a sum-
mer or side road; that the said road shall be cleared at least
thirty feet wide, and constructed at least eighteen feet wide:
provided, also, that the subscribers to the stock of said com-
pany may, at the election of the shareholders, pay the amount of
their subscriptions, or any part thereof, either in money or in
labor, work, materials and services, at such rates or prices as
may be fixed by the board of directors of said company.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
