Chap. 380.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact Section Fourteen of Chap-
ter Two Hundred and Nine of an Act passed April 27th, 1867, Entitled
an Act to Revise and Amend the Criminal Procedure.
Approved March 26, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section fourteen of chapter two hundred and nine of an act
passed April twenty-seventh, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven,
entitled “an act to revise and amend the criminal procedure,”
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
“814. The officer who is required to carry prisoners to the
penitentiary, or to any other place, may, if he deem it neces-
sary for their safe conveyance from the starting point to any
railroad or line of boats en route to the point of destination,
summon one person as @ guard for each prisoner to such rail-
road or boat line, after which, the said officer s‘iall retain and
have but one guard, unless there be more than two prisoners.
and convey them well secured to the prison or place of desti
nation except as follows.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
