Chap. 356.—An ACT To extend the time within which William B. Deggs,
late Sergeant of the City of Norfulk, may Collect the Taxes for the
Years 1866, '7, '8 and ’9.

Whereas, it is represented to the general assembly that Wil-
liam B. Deggs, late sergeant of the city of Norfolk, who was
removed from office by General Canby in eighteen hundred and
sixty-nine, has fully settled and paid into the treasury the reve-
nue of the said city for the years eighteen hundred and sixty-
five, six, seven, eight and nine, but still holds in his hands a
number of uncollected tax tickets for said years, he having
advanced the money for the tax payers, and the period having
elapsed in which he is authorized by law to distrain for the col-
lection of said taxes: therefore,
Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be law-
ful for William B. Deggs, late sergeant of the city of Norfolk,
by himself or his deputies, to have the same powers of distress
and sale as he possessed before he was removed as aforesaid to
enforce the collection of taxes due him as aforesaid in said city.
The right of distress and sale shall continue for the period of
two years from the passage of this act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
