Chap. 355.—An ACT Authorizing the Joint Committee for the Manage
ment of Norfolk County Ferries to Issue Coupon Bonds on behalf of
Norfolk County and the City of Portsmouth and for other Purposes.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the joint committee for the management
of Norfolk county ferries, appointed by the county court of
Norfolk county and the council of the city of Portsmouth, by
and with the consent of the said county court of Norfolk
county and the council of the city of Portsmouth, to issue, on
behalf of Norfolk county and the city of Portsmouth, coupon
bonds in sums not less than five hundred dollars, bearing in-
terest at the rate of nine per centum per annum, payable semi-
annually, and redecmable five years from the first day of July,
eighteen hundred and seventy-two, for an amount not exceed-
ing thirty thousand dollars; the said bonds to be used in fund-
ing the debt which has been created by the said joint commit-
tee for the management of said Norfolk county ferries, on
behalf of Norfolk county and the city of Portsmouth, in the
equipment of said ferries and the construction of boats and
wharves used in connection therewith, or to be used in raising
money by hypothecation or otherwise, for the payment of the
said indebtedness.
2. That the said coupon bonds, issued under authority of
this act, shall be signed by the chairman of the said joint com-
mittee for the management of said Norfolk county ferries, be
attested by the clerk of the county court of Norfolk county,
and have the seal of the said court attached thereto, and be
attested by the clerk of the council of the city of Portsmouth
and have the seal of the city of Portsmouth affixed thereto.
3. It shall be lawful for the said joimt committee for the
management of said ferries, by and with the consent of the
county court of Norfolk county and the council of the city of
Portsmouth, on behalf of Norfolk county and the city of
Portsmouth, to pledge by deed of trust or otherwise, as secu-
rity for the payment of the bonds and interest coupons attached
thereto, issued pursuant to this act, any or all of the boats,
their engines, apparel and appurtenances, and any or all of
the wharves, docks and other personal and real estate con-
nected with said ferries.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
