Chap. 333.—An ACT to Provide for the Election of Certain Township
Officers in the County of Hanover.
Approved March 28, 1872.
Whereas, the county court of Hanover county has reduced
the number of the townships of said county from five to three,
and thereby great derangement has occurred in the township
officers of said county, rendering it necessary that there should
be a new election of the same: therefore,
1. Be it enacted, That in each township of Hanover county
there shall be chosen by the qualified voters of the townships
respectively, at the general election to be held in May, of the
year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two, and annu-
ally thereafter, one supervisor, one assessor, one township
clerk, one collector, one commissioner of roads, and one over-
seer of the poor, who shall hold their offices for the term of
one year.
- 2. In each township of said county there shall be chosen
annually, at the general election in May, by the qualified voters
of the respective townships, one justice of the peace and one
constable, who shall hold their office for the term of three
years: provided, that at the general election to be held in May of
the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two, there
shall be elected three justices and three constables mm each
township, who shall hold their offices one, two and three years
respectively (the terms of each to be decided by lots cast by
the commissioners of election).
