Chap. 317.—An ACT to Incorporate the Piedmont Wine Company in
Nelson County.
Approved March 23, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
for the purpose of raising, buying and selling grapes, and
manufacturing them into wine, of encouraging and supporting
the culture of grapes in Nelson county and adjoining counties,
it shall be lawful to open books for receiving subscriptions to
an amount not exceeding twenty thousand dollars, to be
livided into shares of twenty-five dollars each. The said books
shall be opened at Montreal, in Nelson county, under the direc-
ion of Wm. Gordon, P. B. Young, Wm. D. Ligon, Lewis Ott
und Wm. Kenny, or any three of them, and at such other place
or places and under the direction of such agents as any three
»f the above named commissioners may appoint.
2. When four hundred shares have been subscribed, the
subscribers, their executors, administrators and assigns, shall
92 and they are hereby incorporated into a company, by the
1ame and style of the Piedmont Wine Company, conformably
o the provisions of the laws of Virginia in relation to incor-
porated companies.
8. The officers of said company to continue in office for one
year, and thereafter, until otherwise ordered by the stockholders
thereof, shall be as follows: Wm. Gordon, president; W.
Porcher Miles, vice-president; Wm. D. Ligon, Parker Purvis,
Wm. H. Snyder, Lewis Ott, S. Patterson, directors; John F.
Hix, treasurer; P. B. Young, secretary.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
