Chap. 311.—An ACT to Authorize the Qualitied Voters of the County of
Amherst to Vote on the Question of Removing the Courthouse.
Approved March 23, 1872.
Whereas, numerous and influential citizens of Amherst
county have, by petition, memoralized the gencral assembly,
that the sense of the people of the said county should be taken
upon the change of the location of the courthouse of said
county; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
the duty of the several officers conducting elections in the county
of Amherst, at the times and places for holding the general
election on the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen hundred and
seventy-two, to prepare a separate ballot box for each voting
precint, in which shall be deposited the ballots of the then
qualitied voters who shall desire to vote upon the question of
said removal. The ballots shall be respectively as follows:
For present location.
For location at Tudor Hall farm, near the mouth of Sandis
lane.
Fach ballot so cast which shall have written or printed thereon
“for the present location,” shall be taken and counted as a vote
avainst the removal of said courthouse, and each ballot so cast
which shall have written or printed thereon, “for location at
Tudor Hall farm near the mouth of Sandis lane,” shall be taken
and counted as a vote for the removal of said courthouse of
the county of Amherst from its present location to a point at
Tudor Hall farm near the mouth of Sandis lane.
2. The manner of receiving and canvassing the ballots cast
at such election on the question of the removal of said court-
house and making returns thereof and abstracts of the result
thereof shall conform in all respects to the regulations pre-
scribed by the general laws of this state, except that the certifi-
cates of the judges of election shall be as follows: We hereby
certify that at the election held votes were cast
for the present location of the courthouse, that
votes were cast for its removal to a point at Tudor Hall farm
near the mouth of Sandis lane.

and provided further, that the commissioners of election shall
make, on a separate sheet, an abstract of said votes against and
for removal of said courthouse of Amherst county, which
abstract shall be duly signed by said commissioners and
deposited by them in the clerk's othce of the county court of
said county
3. If from such returns an abstract of votes so cast upon the
question of the removal of the courthouse of Amherst county
it shall appear that a majority of the votes were for the removal
to a point at Tudor Hall farm near the mouth of Sandis lane,
the said point thus indicated shall to all intents and purposes
be the place for holding court in the said county of Amherst,
and for conducting the business ineident thereto, as soon as the
supervisors or their successors in oflice shall providea siitable
courthouse and other necessary building and fixtures for the
county of Amherst.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
