Chap. 309.—JOINT RESOLUTION Extending the Time for the Collee-
tion of Taxes, and County and Township Levies, in Rik Run Township,
in the County of Rockingham.
Approved March 23, 1872.
Whereas, it is represented to the general assenibly of Vir-
minia that in Elk Run township, in the county of Rockingham,
the collection of taxes and county and township levies has been
prevented and delayed, from various causes, within the time
preseribed by law: therefore, be it
1. Resolved by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
collector of taxes and county and township levies of Elk Run
township, in the county of Rockingham, be allowed until the
first. day of June, eighteen hundred and seventy-two, to pro-
eeed with and close up his several collections and muke his
final settlement with said treasurer: and the said treasurer be
allowed until the fifteenth day of June. cightecu hundred and
seventy-two, to make his final settlement with the auditor of
public aceounts, or other proper offieer: provided, the extension
of time hereby granted shal] not apply to taxes and county and
township levies already collected and im the hands of the said
officers, but that all collections made by them prior to the first
day of March, eighteen hnndred and seventy-two, shall be paid
into the tre: aSsury “at the time preseribed by law.
2. Be it further resolved, That the treasurer of said county,
in case the said collector has returned to him the meollected
tax biuls. is hereby authorized and required to return the same
to the suid collector, who is hereby required to proceed to the
collection of the same; and if the said tax bills shall not be
pud and the insolvent ists returned, in the manner as now
required by law, on the first day of June, eighteen hundred
and seventy-two, it shail be the duty of the treasnrer to proceed
acainst the collector and his surcties as he would have done on
the first day of March, eighteen amdred and seventy-two.
3. Resolved, That all penalties meurred by said treasurer
and collector, or either of them, be and they are hereby re-
mitted. and that all legal proecedings now pending against
said officers, or either of them. for failing to collect and account
for the taxes and county and township levies. as now prescribed
by law, be and they are hereby suspended: provided. that this
resolution shall not apply to taxes and county and township
levies which have been collected by said officers prior to the
first day of March, eighteen hundred and sev enty two.
