Chap. 301.—An ACT to Incorporate the Shawaville, Jacksonville, Tay-
lorsville and North Carolina Railroad Company.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful to open books of subscription at Shawsville,
in the county of Montgomery, under the superintendence of

Critz, for the capital stock of a company under the corporate
name of “The Shawsville, Jacksonville, Taylorsville and North
Carolina Railroad Company,” for the purpose of constructing a
railroad between Shawsville, Virginia, and the North Carolina
line, at some point in the county of Patrick, and the said road
may be of the gauge in general use on the Virginia railroad
lines, or may be in the manner of the narrow gauge railroad.
Any five of the commissioners appointed at each place respec-
tively, may act as if alone named; and the commissioners are
authorized to receive subscriptions, payable in land, money,
labor to be done on said road, or material to be used for the
construction of the same; and it shall be lawful for corpora-
tions to subscribe to the capital stock of said company.
2. It shall be lawful for the counties of Montgomery, Floyd
and Patrick, or for any township inside of the said counties, to
subscribe to the capital stock of the said company in the man-
ner and form as now prescribed by law.
3. That the capital stock shall not be less than fifty thousand
dollars and not more than eight hundred thousand dollars, to
be divided in shares of twenty dollars each. Whenever the
said first mentioned amount shall be subscribed, the subscribers
shall be and are hereby declared a corporation by the name of the
Shawsville, Jacksonville, Taylorsville and North Carolina Rail-
road Company, for the purposes mentioned in the first section
of this act, and shall have full power to effect the same, and is
subject to all general laws applicable to such corporations not
in conflict with this act.
4, That the company may borrow such sums of money as it
may deem necessary for the construction and business of its
road, and may exeeute hens upon its property, franchises and
revenues tu secare the payment of principal and interest of
such loans.
5. The work on said road shall be eommenced within one
year and coiiineted to Jacksonville within five years.
6. This act sitall be in force from its passage.
