Chap. 196.—An ACT to Extend the Charter of the Sweet Springs anc
White Sulphur Turnpike Company, in the County of Alleyhany.
Approved March 138, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, Tha
the rights and privileges conferred by the charter of the Swee
Springs and White Sulphur.Turnpike Company, wnder the ac
of April the eighth, eighteen hundred and thirty-one, and ex
tended by the act of March the ninth, eighteen hundred ans
forty-two, be and they are hereby extended for the benefit o
Richard D. White and James M. Smith, the late owners of sai
road, for the period of fifteen years, beginning at the date o
the passage of this act.
2. Be it further enacted, That the parties owning said roac
and their successors, be subject to all the regulations now pre
scribed by law for the government and control of turnpik
companies, with this further provision, that should the gates c
said road be thrown open, and remain open for the period c
sixty days at one time, the rights hereby conferred shall b
deemed to be revoked.
3. Be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for eithe
the circuit or the county court of Alleghany county, at any tim
after the expiration of the period above recited, or after th
privileges hereby conferred are abandoned or forfeited, to au-
thorize the receiving of toll upon said road under such restric-
tions as the said court may prescribe that are consistent with
the general turnpike laws: provided, that any party or parties
who may desire to apply for the bencfits conferred by this sec-
tion shall post a written notice of their intention for thirty days
previous to applying to court on the front door of the court-
house of Alleghany county, and at two public places on said
road.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
