Chap. 194.—An ACT to Provide for a Re-division of Certain Counties into
Townships,
Approved March 7, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for the county judges of the counties of
Shenandoah, Franklin, Washington, Fairfax, Floyd, Bland,
Rockbridge, Pulaski and Russell, and it shall be their duty
upon the petition of the board of supervisors of said counties,
as soon after the passage of this act as may be, to appoint one
discreet man in each of the townships of said counties, whose
duty it shall be to re-divide their respective counties into town-
ships, and they shall inform said commissioners forthwith of
their appointment.
2. The said commissioners shall procecd without delay to the
discharge of the duties imposed upon them by this act, con-
forming in all respects in their action to the provisions of an
act approved April second, eighteen hundred and seventy,
entitled an act to provide for dividing the several counties of
this state into townships.
3. The re-division of said county into townships under this
act shall take effect on the first day of July, eighteen hundred
and seventy-two, and the election of township ofticers for said
township shall be held on the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen
hundred and seventy two, in accordance with the provisions of
existing laws: provided, that at that clection there shall be
elected in each township three Justices of the peace and three
constables, whose term shall be one, two and three years
respectively.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
