Chap. 187.—An ACT Authorizing the Appointment of Deputies of
County and Township Officers in Term Time or Vacation, and Repeal-
ing Section 15, Chapter 49, and Section 8, Chapter 163, of Code of 1860.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the clerk of any county, corporation or circuit court, a sheriff,
@ sergeant, assessor or collector, or treasurer of any county or
city, may, with the consent of the court, or of the judge in
vacation (the said consent in vacation being given in writing),
appoint a deputy who, during the continuance in office of said
principal, may discharge any of the duties of said clerk, sheriff,
sergeant, collector, assessor, or treasurer, unless otherwise
provided by law. He may be removed from office either by
his principal or by the court, or by the judge in vacation.
2. Section fifteen of chapter forty-nine, and section eight of
chapter one hundred and sixty-three, of the Code of Virginia
(edition of 1860), are hereby repealed.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
