Chap. 132.—An ACT to Incorporate the Town of Mcunt Jackson, in the
County of Shenandoah.
In force March 4, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the limits of
the town of Mt..Jackson, in the county of Shenandoah, shall
be bounded as follows: Commencing at the old mill seat on
the north fork of the Shenandoah river, running west to the
corner of Levi Rinker’s woods; thence south to Mill creek, at
a point opposite Joseph Maphis’ mill; thence down said creek
to its mouth; thence down said river to the beginning.
2. That the same as bounded is hereby made a town corpo-
rate, by the name of Mt. Jackson, and by that name shall have
and exercise the powers conferred upon towns by the fifty-
fourth chapter of the Code of Virginia, of eighteen hundred
and sixty, and of all the laws now in force, and which may
hereafter pass, for the government of towns containing less
than five thousand inhabitants.
3. The officers of said town shall consist of five trustees, to
wit: G. H. H. Koontz, John W. Miller, Samuel Kingree, S.
K. Moore, and John P. Lonas, who shall constitute the mayor
and council of said town, any three of whom shall be a board
for the transaction of business. The mayor and council shall
have power to appoint a sergeant and such other officers as
may be necessary, together with a police force for the preserva-_
ion of order, who shall remain in office until their successors |
shall be elected and qualified according to law.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
