Chap. 112.—An ACT Concerning Change of Plan for Improvement of
Rivanuna River.
Approved February 21, 1872.
Whereas, the Rivanna Navigation Company, under authority
granted by previous acts of the legislature of Virginia, changed
the plan of the improvement for navigation on the Rivanna
river from that required for batteaux to that suited for horse
boats; and whereas, the enlarged improvement on that suited
for horse boat navigation was only partially constructed, and
that for batteaux allowed to go down, so that the said Rivanna
river is not now navigable above the Union mills pond; and
whereas, the board of directors of said company are now
making an effort to extend the improvement of said river for
navigation up to Hydraulic mils, on the south fork, and Fer-
neyhough’s mills, on the north fork, and doubts have arisen
with said board of directors as to their authority to extend
said improvement, except on a plan suited to horse boat navi-
gation, and they regard the means at their command as inade-
quate to complete it to the points above named on that plan:
therefore, °
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the board of directors of Rivanna Navigation Company be
authorized and empowered, and they are hereby granted full
and complete authority to make such alteration in the plan for
the improvement of said Rivanna river for navigation from
Milton or any other point up to Hydraulic mills, on the south
fork, and Ferneyhough's mills, on the north fork, as to them,
the said board of directors, shall appear expedient and
advisable.
2. This act shall be in force from and after the date of its ¢
passage.
