Chap. 110.—An ACT Allowing the Dinwiddie Street M. E. Church of
Portsmouth to Borrow Money to Re-build their Church, and to Secure
the Payment of the Same by Deeds of Trust on the Property of the
Church.

Whereas, it is represented to the general assembly of Vir-
ginia that the trustees of the Dinwiddie, Street Methodist Epis-
copal Church, South, of the city of Portsmouth, had their church
building destroyed by fire in the year eighteen hundred and
sixty-four, on the lot hereinafter to be mentioned; and whereas,
the said trustees are desirous of borrowing a certain sum or
sums of money for the purpose of erecting on said lot another
church edifice and a parsonage, and of sccuring the payment
of the same: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
it shall be lawful for George M. Bain, John L. Porter, William
A. Niemeyer, Willis Neville, George W. Reynolds, Zachariah
Owens, John S. Stubbs, Williams Dyson, and James Brown,
the leyally constituted and appointed trustees of said church,
and their successors in office, or a majority of the same, to
borrow such sum or sums of money as may be necessary to
rebuild their church edifice and to erect a parsonage, and for
securing the payment of the said sum or sums of money s0
borrowed, that they be and are hereby invested with full power
and authority to execute a deed or deeds of trust upon said
lot, or any portion of the same, now held by and legally vested
in said trustees, situate in the city of Portsmouth; and said
deed or deeds of trust, executed as aforesaid, shall be as
effectual and binding as if the same were executed by an indi-
vidual owning land in fee simple.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
