Chap. 65.—An ACT in Relation to the Boundary Lines Between the State
of Virginia and the States of Maryland, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Approved February 4, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the governor
=f of this commonwealth apply to the proper officer of the Uni-
us- ted States government for the assignment of a competent corps
of surveyors to the duty of ascertaining and locating the true
boundary lines between the state of Virginia and the states of
Maryland, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
2, The governor is hereby authorized to appoint three com-
o be missioners on behalf of this state to confer and act with such
corps of surveyors, and with similar commissioners on behalf
of the other states herein named, if such commissioners shall
be appointed by said states.
3. The governor shall transmit copies of this act to the go-
“s vernors of Maryland, North Carolina, and Tennessee, ‘and in-
tain vite the said governors to appoint commissioners on behalf of
their respective states to confer and act with the commission-
ers appointed on behalf of this state.
4. The commissioners of this state shall submit to the gene-
ral assembly, as soon as practicable after the completion of their
labors, a report of their acts and conclusions in regard to the
said boundary lines.
5. The sum of five thousand dollars, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, is hereby appropriated out of any money in
the treasury, not otherwise appropriated, to defray the ex-
penses of ascertaining the said boundary lines; and the auditor
of public accounts is hereby authorized and directed to issue
his warrants upon the treasurer, upon the certificates of the
yovernor of this state, for such portions thereoi as may from
time to time be required.
6. The joint resolutions approved June twenty-seventh,
eighteen hundred and seventy, entitled joint resolutions in re-
lation to appointment of commissioners to ascertain and define
the boundary lines between Virginia and Maryland, North
Carolina and Tennessee, are hereby rescinded.
7. This act shall be in force from its passage.
