Chap. 56.—An ACT for the Relief of Clayton North, Commissioner of the
Revenue for the City of Lynchburg, Allowing him Further Time to
Qualify.

Whereas, by virtue of an act of the general assembly, passed
twenty-eighth day of March, eighteen hundred and seventy,
and approved the eighth of April, eighteen hundred and sev-
enty, entitled an act in relation to commissioners of the reve-
nue, Clayton North was appointed commissioner of the reve-
nue for the district of Lynchburg city for the term of one year,
who qualified and entered upon the discharge of the duties of
said office; and whereas, the said Clayton North was elected
by the qualified voters of the city of Lynchburg to the office
of commissioner of the revenue for said city, at a general elec-
tion held on the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen hundred
and seventy, and qualified before the city council of said city
by taking the necessary oaths and executing the requisite
bond; but failed, under a misapprehension of the law, to qual-
ify and execute the bond required by law, before the judge ot
the hustings court of the said city of Lynchburg: now, there-
fore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the said
Clayton North be, and he is hereby relieved trom the forfei-
ture of the office of commissioner of the revenue for the city
of Lynchburg, by reason of his failure to. qualify and execute
bond before the judge of the corporation court of said city
within the time prescribed by law; and it may be lawful for
the said Clayton North, within thirty days from the passage of
this act, to qualify and execute the bond as required by law of
commissioners of the revenue; such qualification to be as
good and effectual as if done within the time prescribed by
the general law. Nothing herein shall be so construed as to
require the said Clayton North to execute any other or fur-
ther bond before the city council of the city of Lynehburg as
such commissioner of the revenue, unless he shall be ordered
to do so by such city council after due notice.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
